Check if there are armed individuals in the chamber: Tense atmosphere during the council session
The regular session of the Yerevan City Council began today in a tense atmosphere. Ani Khachatryan, a member of the council's "Luminous" faction, insisted that Arman Antonian, a member of the "My Step" faction, attends the council meetings with a weapon and requested the vice mayor Levon Hovhannisyan to call in security personnel.
"There is a security issue for all of us here, please check if there are armed individuals seated in the chamber. This is a building under state protection, and I demand, for the safety of us all," Khachatryan said.
Ignoring the council member's appeal, the vice mayor attempted to proceed with the session. "Should I call the police, or should we check our security?" Khachatryan insisted, adding that she had contacted the police about this issue but had not received a response.
The discussion was interrupted by Deputy Mayor Tigran Avinyan: "Ms. Khachatryan, the issue is resolved, there is no need. We all know what the specific issue is. Mr. Antonian, please respond directly, it concerns you." The My Step faction's member asserted that he does not have a weapon, and the police are also aware of this, which is why no appropriate response was given.
