"If I am guilty, I am ready to answer." Tbilisi Mayor on the child electrocuted and deceased in a fountain

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, speaking about the tragedy that occurred in Vake Park, stated that if he bears any responsibility, he is ready to face legal consequences. According to Aliq.ge, Kaladze mentioned that the condition of another teenager currently in the clinic is stable. He emphasized that the investigation will clarify everything, and those responsible for the crime will be held accountable under the law.

“I want to express my condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of the deceased girl. I can only imagine how difficult the situation is. This is a terrible incident...,” said Kaladze.

It was reported yesterday morning that children had been electrocuted after entering the fountain area at the entrance of Vake Park. Later, it was revealed that a 13-year-old girl who was injured due to the electrocution died in the clinic. According to David Tsibadze, head of the Children's Health Center at New Hospitals, one of the children affected by the electrocution is still on a ventilator.

Following the death of the teenager, citizens gathered near the Tbilisi City Hall to hold a protest and a candlelight vigil. The tragic news has prompted reactions from Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, Minister of Education Mikheil Chkhenkeli, as well as opposition, political, and expert circles.

It is noteworthy that the grand opening of the renovated fountains in Vake Park took place on October 12. “Grinservices+” has completed restoration work on the fountains in Vake Park at a cost of 13 million lari. According to competitive documentation, the final inspection of the completed work was carried out on August 29, 2022.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has initiated an investigation under part 1 of Article 240 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to violations of safety regulations that have resulted in less severe or severe harm to health.
