Motion to Strip Immunity from Judge Ani Harutyunyan, Closely Linked to Serzh Sargsyan

The Chief Prosecutor of Armenia has submitted a motion to the Supreme Judicial Council requesting the lifting of immunity from Administrative Court Judge Ani Harutyunyan. The Chief Prosecutor's office confirmed in a conversation with 'Factinfo' that the motion has indeed been filed with the Supreme Judicial Council, stating that the identifying details of the judge are not subject to publication.

'Based on the first part of Article 161 of the Judicial Code, the Chief Prosecutor has submitted a request for consent to initiate criminal proceedings against the judge in connection with the performance of her duties,' said Lusine Martirosyan, the Chief Prosecutor's advisor on media relations.

However, the Prosecutor's Office refrained from providing details about the criminal case, citing the need to maintain the confidentiality of the preliminary investigation and the integrity of the judiciary and the judge.

It is worth noting that Ani Harutyunyan has been serving as an Administrative Court judge since 2013. According to media reports, Judge Ani Harutyunyan is the daughter of Grisha Harutyunyan, a close associate of Serzh Sargsyan and former Deputy Head of the National Security Service. Former Member of Parliament Mihran Poghosyan is also the nephew of Grisha Harutyunyan.
