Erevan-Erebuni Turns 2804 Years Old

Erevan-Erebuni turns 2804 years old. This was announced by the Yerevan Municipality, which also released a video. The Mayor of Yerevan, Hrachya Sargsyan, has shared a message on the occasion of the city’s anniversary, stating:

“Greetings, dear Yerevan, which brings warmth, love, unique spirit, and meaning! Today marks the 2804th anniversary of our beloved Erebuni-Yerevan’s founding. I greatly appreciate that our city unites the best figures of our country’s culture and science, talented athletes, promising youth, and all our honest citizens. Our capital began its journey of development with challenging yet confident steps, encountering praise, accolades, sometimes misunderstanding, and harsh criticism. Yet, listening to and sharing your concerns as citizens, we strive to develop within the spaces and times while preserving our identity, history, and culture, and our will and vision for living and advancing.

Reflecting on the past, soberly assessing and valuing our country’s difficult and complex present, and actively engaging in the challenging processes of realizing our country’s and people’s goals and desires for the future, we can boldly declare that our goal is singular: to never stop thinking about independence and statehood, to never, ever, and ever stop acting, fighting, and striving for Armenia, for Armenia's freedom and sacred independence.

In this context, urbanization must be justified, and the vision for development must be constructive. The development of our city aims at empowering and winning in conditions of free competition, but to achieve all this, it is essential to unite different 'I's in one place that will be called WE—a collective unit. Through the united potential and collaborative work, it will be possible to change the reality, making our city’s future more colorful and promising.

In these years, I have prioritized the citizen, every effort, and detail directed towards the development of the city. No matter how disappointed we may be when discussing urban issues, the reforms that have been and continue to be implemented are undeniable. As much as we speak about the need to breathe new life into cultural life, I can say that, yes, we are trying to present it in our unique way—anchored in national spiritual roots and amidst global cultural developments.

We are building and restoring the forgotten and abandoned green parks, gardens, and playgrounds of the capital, adhering to this wisdom: by rediscovering the old, we create the new. The state today emphasizes the development of a knowledge-based society; therefore, we have no alternative to strengthening and advancing other than education and self-education, starting from kindergarten and leading to schools, libraries, and cultural educational centers.

Alongside ongoing renovation and construction works, we also prioritize the quality and relevance of education, implementing daily diverse activities around it. We have started modernizing the transport system and continue to fervently ensure it reaches its best possible condition. Soon, work will commence on the construction of a centralized traffic management digital center, which will provide high-quality transport services through modern digital solutions.”
