Zelensky Signs Decree Recognizing Kuril Islands as Japanese Territory
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree recognizing the Kuril Islands as Japanese territory.
Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a draft resolution stating that the four Kuril Islands are recognized as territory occupied by Russia. “Today an important decision was made. Ukraine has reaffirmed its respect for Japan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, including its northern territories, which are still under Russian occupation. Today I signed the corresponding decree,” Zelensky said in a video address on Friday evening. “We urge the world to adopt similar decisions,” he added.
