What Mirzoyan and Bayramov Discussed in Geneva

On October 2, a meeting took place in Geneva between Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. The Armenian Foreign Ministry reports that Mirzoyan reaffirmed the Armenian side's position regarding the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from the sovereign territory of Armenia and the immediate release of all Armenian prisoners of war.

The establishment of international mechanisms for monitoring the border situation was emphasized. The Armenian Foreign Minister highlighted that the war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces should be subject to clear assessment by international bodies, and those responsible must be held accountable.

"The parties exchanged views on the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the rights of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, and ensuring security guarantees, including the establishment of a mechanism for discussions between Stepanakert and Baku," the statement said.

According to the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the mutual understanding that regional transport routes should be unblocked under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries is viewed positively.

It is worth noting that the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry also issued a statement regarding the Geneva talks, mentioning that Bayramov proposed to hold the next meeting of the delimitation commission in October, rather than November as previously agreed, and emphasized the need to "withdraw the Armenian armed forces from Azerbaijani territory," to open transport communication lines in the shortest timeframe based on preliminary agreements reached within the framework of the trilateral commission led by the deputy prime ministers, and to make progress in delimitation efforts.
