‘Azerbaijanis Operated on Armenian Captives Without Anesthesia’ – Ombudsman

The Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Kristine Grigoryan, has announced that Armenian captives have been treated poorly in an Azerbaijani military hospital. The Ombudsman noted that the Armenian captives were subjected to psychological pressure.

“Medical interventions were carried out without anesthesia; this refers to surgeries and wound treatments,” Grigoryan stated. “All these cases will be reflected in the Ombudsman’s closed report, without names, as we do not want to target our servicemen in any way,” she emphasized.

According to Grigoryan, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman has not reached out to her. “I have personally written and requested information, calling for the need to utilize our mandates to serve the people. Unfortunately, I have not received a response from my Azerbaijani colleague,” Grigoryan noted.

She highlighted that almost all returning captives have reported experiences of torture and mistreatment. “Incidents of mistreatment have also been recorded in Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies. A separate report will be prepared regarding all these matters,” she added.
