Demolition of the Partially Collapsed Surmalu Building Authorized, Work Already Underway: Sardaryan
The Yerevan Municipality has authorized the demolition of the partially collapsed building of the Surmalu Shopping Center following the explosion. The information was confirmed to Sputnik by Levon Sardaryan, head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Yerevan Municipality.
"Work has already begun at this time. The demolition process is being carried out by the owner of the shopping center," Sardaryan noted.
It is important to mention that after the explosion at the Surmalu shopping center on August 14, Krystaphori Street was closed for several days. On September 21, due to high winds, a wall of the partially collapsed building also fell, trapping two passenger vehicles; fortunately, there were no civilians in the cars. This incident resulted in injuries to three citizens.
Recall that an explosion occurred at approximately 13:23 on August 14 at the Surmalu shopping center, which claimed the lives of 16 people, one person is considered missing, and around 70 people were hospitalized with varying degrees of injuries.
