What Would Happen if Artsakh Did Not Exit the Negotiation Process? Pashinyan
How important is the negotiating figure, and can it change the situation? In an interview with public television, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan responded positively to this question:
“Of course it is important; it can change the situation. For example, the figure of the negotiator in 1998 drastically changed the situation when Artsakh was excluded from the negotiation process. In my opinion, if Artsakh had not been excluded from the negotiation process, or if Armenia had been excluded from the process, the Artsakh issue would have been resolved by now,” said Pashinyan.
Pashinyan emphasized again that the role of the negotiator is crucial, noting that it was in the role of the negotiator that in 2007, while accepting the Madrid principles, Armenian negotiators effectively nullified the 1991 independence referendum and nullified the Declaration of Independence adopted on August 23, 1990.
“Today, we understand what kind of conjuncture has formed, and this is not something new,” he added.
