U.S. State Department's Call to Azerbaijan
The spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, Ned Price, referred to the tension along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. “We urge Azerbaijan to return its forces to their original positions. We are working to resolve all outstanding issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan through peaceful negotiations. The use of force is an unacceptable path. We have made this clear publicly, and we are pleased that our ongoing cooperation with the countries has helped halt military operations. We will continue to participate and encourage the work necessary to achieve sustainable peace, as this conflict has no military solution.”
Speaking about the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Price added, “That will be determined by the two countries, but we truly believe that the continued direct interaction between Armenia and Azerbaijan is in their interests as well as the interests of the region and beyond. We have offered our assistance on bilateral, trilateral, and multilateral bases. Of course, the EU also plays an important role in this matter.”
