Teachers Apply to Work in the Patrol Service
According to information from the 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper, numerous cases have been registered in the police system over the past year, where teachers (including those working in Yerevan schools) have left their teaching jobs to apply to the Patrol Service for employment.
A teacher with just one class hour and counseling duties often earns barely 100,000 drams, and understandably, they could be attracted to a job that offers a salary of 400,000 drams. According to our information, although the relevant authorities do not provide statistics, the number of those interested in such positions or those who have applied for service is not small.
In an interview with the 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper, the head of the Patrol Police, Arthur Umrshatyan, confirmed that there have been precedents of teachers becoming patrol officers, but he countered that there are no specific statistics, and it's not the case that teacher-patrols are in large numbers. 'If we conditionally accept that 1,350 people have applied for service, then only 5-6 of them have been educators. For instance, one girl applied from Meghri, but her goal was more to relocate to Yerevan. Yes, we have such cases, but they are exceptional, and to say that teachers are spontaneously leaving their posts to join the Patrol Service would be a lie; such a thing does not exist. Of course, as the head of the service, I would prefer that more highly educated people apply, but certainly not at the expense of the school,' the head of the service stated.
