Local Elections in Armenia: Preliminary Results

Yesterday, local self-government elections were held through a proportional electoral system in 17 communities across Aragatsotn, Gegharkunik, Lori, Kotayk, Shirak, Syunik, Vayots Dzor, and Tavush regions, while a majoritarian election was conducted in the Alagyaz community in Aragatsotn region. In this community, elections for the community leader and council members took place. At 20:00, 314 polling stations closed in 8 communities across the republic.

According to preliminary results from the local elections in the consolidated community of Ani in Shirak region, the alliance led by the incumbent mayor Artak Gevorgyan has won.

In Alaverdi, preliminary data indicates that the “Living Land” party is leading. In the consolidated community of Berd, the incumbent mayor Harutyun Manucharyan, who has been imprisoned for nearly 11 months, is winning. This was reported by Vahan Babayan, head of the “Reformists” party.

In Tashir, “Civil Contract” suffered a crushing defeat. According to preliminary data, the “Unified Community” alliance gathered 5025 votes while “Civil Contract” received 1925 votes. The candidate from CP is Arman Vardanyan, while the winning alliance's candidate is Edgar Arshakyan.

In the Ishkhanasar community of Sisian, the “Civil Contract” party has garnered the most votes. Preliminary data from Ishkhanasar community shows: CP - 35 votes, “Work and Justice” alliance - 31 votes, “Living Land” party - 17 votes.

In the consolidated community of Talin, preliminary results show that the candidate from the “Civil Contract” party, Tavors Sapeian, has won. The non-partisan Jasem Makhmudov has emerged victoriously in the consolidated community of Alagyaz.

According to data published by the Central Electoral Commission, 50.4% of eligible voters participated in the elections, which amounts to 119,469 people. The most active was the Kapan community in Syunik region, where 77% or 4,743 voters participated. This was followed by the Akunk community with a participation rate of 70.1%.

The least active was the Jrvezh community in Kotayk region, where 2,177 out of 8,003 eligible voters (27.2%) participated in the elections.
