Russia Grieves with the Armenian People: Russian Embassy

The Russian Embassy in Armenia has issued a condolence message on the occasion of the anniversary of the 44-day war in 2020, noting that they mourn the victims along with the Armenian people, extending condolences to their families, and wishing recovery and health to the injured and wounded.

“Russia has undertaken and will continue to take all necessary steps for the full implementation of the trilateral agreements reached between the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan in 2020 and 2021, to help find solutions to the existing problems that will ensure stable peace and security in the South Caucasus region,” the statement reads.

The Russian diplomatic mission expressed confidence that all disputed issues can and should be resolved exclusively through political and diplomatic means, based on the trilateral agreements.

It is noteworthy that on the early morning of September 27, 2020, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale military attack along the entire length of the Artsakh-Azerbaijani border, with the support of Turkey.

On November 9, 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev adopted a joint statement regarding the cessation of hostilities.

According to the trilateral statement, the Russian Federation's peacekeeping force has been deployed along the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh and the Lachin corridor, consisting of 1,960 servicemen, equipped with infantry weapons, 90 armored vehicles, and 380 vehicles and special equipment.

The peacekeeping force of the Russian Federation is deployed for a period of 5 years, after which this period will be automatically extended for another 5 years unless either party announces its intention to terminate this provision 6 months before the expiration of the term.
