German Official Calls Erdoğan a 'Sewer Rat'; Turkey Responds

The spokesperson of Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tanju Bilgic, has strongly condemned the "offensive remarks" made by Wolfgang Kubicki, Vice President of the German Federal Parliament, towards Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. This was reported by Ermenihaber.am.

During a pre-election speech in Hildesheim, Germany, Kubicki referred to Erdoğan as a "sewer rat" while discussing the necessity of not accepting a new influx of migrants into Germany.

Bilgic stated that such "indecent remarks" provide insight into Kubicki's political and moral level, also exposing his vulgarity. He noted that Turkey has communicated its "strong reaction" to the German ambassador in Ankara, who was summoned to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.

Interestingly, in response to a query from Deutsche Welle's Turkish service, Kubicki's office confirmed the use of such characterization. "The sewer rat is a small, pleasant, yet simultaneously clever and cunning creature. That is why it also appears as a main character in many children's stories. For instance, in the book 'Ratatouille'," his office emphasized, indicating that the remark made by Kubicki was in reference to Erdoğan's immigration policies.
