Attempting to Redefine Borders Will Fail, Greece Supports Armenia's Territorial Integrity - Dendias
The political initiative to revisit maps will face failure. Greece's Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias made this statement in Yerevan during a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. "Greece has repeatedly emphasized its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states, and this undoubtedly also pertains to our good friend Armenia. We believe in the inviolability of borders," Dendias stated.
He highlighted that just a few days ago, Armenian territory was being bombed by Azerbaijani forces. He expressed Greece's solidarity with the Armenian government and its people. "I would also like to send a clear message to those countries attempting to redefine borders. My message is as follows: the policies of revision will fail. I would also like to mention another such power—Turkey—which is trying to take advantage of this mixed situation to disrespect stability. We are also witnessing Turkish rhetoric; let me say that Turkey is also opposed to Greece sending several defensive weapons to Greek islands. This is being done under conditions where Greece is acting within its obligations that stem from the Lausanne Agreement," emphasized the Greek Foreign Minister, adding that Turkey is opposed because Greece does not allow its territories to remain unprotected.
According to him, Turkey currently threatens to start a war against Greece. The Foreign Minister stressed that Greece is prepared and willing to initiate constructive dialogue with Turkey within the framework of international law, and is also ready to defend itself and its rights.
The foreign ministers also discussed the security challenges in the Caucasus in Yerevan. "Our position regarding Nagorno-Karabakh remains unchanged; we support reaching peaceful, mutually acceptable solutions within the framework of international law. International law is the 'Holy Scripture' for international relations and politics. In this regard, we also welcome Prime Minister Pashinyan’s courage, who has proposed a new approach for a new future in this region," said the Greek Foreign Minister.
However, he emphasized that solutions and peace cannot be built under conditions where there is a threat of the use of force. Greece will continue to support the initiation of bilateral negotiations. Nikos Dendias added that they believe humanitarian issues must be resolved urgently, and humanitarian law must be respected.
