Peskov Addresses Possibility of Closing Russian Borders Due to Mobilization
There is no decision regarding the closing of Russia's borders due to the partial mobilization. This information was communicated to journalists by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation. Earlier, media outlets had reported that it was possible the borders would be closed in connection with the partial mobilization.
Peskov also stated that there has been no decision to impose martial law in several regions of Russia. The President's press secretary announced that there have been violations during the mobilization process. “There are indeed cases where the order is being carried out with violations. In certain regions, local leaders are actively working to rectify the situation. Our journalists and representatives of NGOs are doing active and necessary work. And that is very important,” Peskov said in response to a question about whether the President is aware of incorrect call-up cases and what measures are being prepared regarding this issue. He noted that all the information is being relayed to both the regional authorities and the Ministry of Defense.
It is noteworthy that on September 21, a partial mobilization was declared in Russia by presidential decree. According to Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, this is necessary for controlling the 1,000 km contact line and the territories liberated in Ukraine. About 300,000 people will be drafted, which is slightly more than 1% of Russia's total mobilization resource.
Additionally, on the early morning of February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a decision regarding a special military operation in Ukraine, as the LPR and DPR had requested assistance. Combat operations in Ukraine have been ongoing for 214 days now.
