It Will Not Be Pleasant for Anyone: What Levon Ter-Petrosyan Proposes
The vast majority of the opposition believes that if they can rid themselves of Nikol, they can avoid painful solutions, but this is naive. Whoever comes will probably sign an even worse document. Such a statement was made by the first President of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, during his appearance on Public Television.
"We are at such a fateful juncture where all former contradictions, disputes, and mutual deletions have reached a point that requires dialogue and joint decision-making. The Dashnaks and Communists fought against each other, but there came a moment when they acted wisely and found a solution that ensured 101 years of peace for us... We are facing heavy solutions, painful solutions. Agreements must be signed with both Azerbaijan and Turkey. It will not be pleasant for anyone. If a document is not signed, if peace is not reached with the two neighbors, we cannot restore the reality of the past 70 years; we must build a country with stones on stones and enrich it," said the first president.
According to Ter-Petrosyan, only Nikol Pashinyan and the leadership of his party possess information about what Russia, Turkey are offering, and what advice the US is giving. "Only Nikol and one or two people know this; Kocharian, Sargsyan, and I do not have this information. The essence of my proposal is that the vast majority of the opposition believes that if they can get rid of Nikol, they can avoid painful solutions, and this is naivety. Whoever comes will sign the same or an even worse document. All solutions will be bad; we must choose the least painful one," stated the first president.
In Ter-Petrosyan's view, Pashinyan is also afraid to sign. No matter what document he signs, he will be labeled as a Turk, a traitor.
The former president also proposed a meeting between himself, the Catholicos, Robert Kocharian, Serzh Sargsyan, and Nikol Pashinyan: "I am ready," he said.
