Azerbaijanis Sent Photo and Video of Slain Armenian Soldier to His Wife: New Evidence from the Recent War
During the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Armenia from September 13 to 15, 2022, Azerbaijani armed forces inflicted not only physical suffering but also psychological torment on the families of slain Armenian servicemen. This was stated in a press release issued by the Tatoyan Foundation.
According to the statement, the Center for Law and Justice, the Tatoyan Foundation has obtained evidence that Azerbaijani servicemen killed an Armenian serviceman, filmed and photographed him in a slain state, and subsequently sent the images to his wife via WhatsApp. They also shared the video and photo in WhatsApp's 'story' section. The video they sent also included other Armenian servicemen who were killed collectively.
The objective evidence will receive the necessary legal documentation from the Foundation. This criminal act confirms that the aim of Azerbaijani armed forces is also to cause psychological distress to the families of the deceased and to Armenian society, playing with emotions. Similar incidents were recorded during the April 2016 and the 2020 44-day wars. This indicates that the modus operandi has not changed; these crimes have become chronic, as the atrocities are encouraged by Azerbaijani authorities, and the perpetrators remain unpunished.
The evidence will be properly documented and sent to international partners; those responsible for these crimes must be held accountable.
