A New Island Has Emerged in the Pacific Ocean

A new island has emerged near the central Tonga islands in the southwestern Pacific Ocean following an underwater volcanic eruption. This was reported by CNN.

One of the submerged volcanoes erupted on September 10, releasing lava, steam, and ash, according to NASA's Earth Observatory. Eleven hours after the eruption, a new island appeared on the water's surface.

The new island has rapidly expanded in size. By September 14, the island's area measured 4,000 square meters, and by September 20, it had reached 24,000 square meters.
