Avinyan Appointed as Deputy Mayor of Yerevan

During an extraordinary meeting of the Yerevan Council of Elders on September 23, the council appointed Tigran Avinyan as the deputy mayor of Yerevan. Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan stated that with Avinyan joining the team, he would be able to apply his experience gained in the state apparatus.

In his speech, Tigran Avinyan emphasized that any position or status is merely a means to realize goals, ideas, and solve problems. “I have often been asked, including by my colleagues from the ‘My Step’ faction, whether it is problematic to be appointed deputy mayor of Yerevan after holding the position of Deputy Prime Minister. I want to confidently and sincerely express that regardless of any high positions I previously held and all discussions related to the upcoming elections, it is a great honor for me to be the deputy mayor of my birthplace, Yerevan, and to serve the city and its residents,” he said, expressing gratitude for this opportunity.

The meeting was attended by 44 members of the council. It should be noted that the issue of appointing Tigran Avinyan as deputy mayor was supposed to be discussed at the council's meeting on September 13; however, the discussion was postponed due to the aggression initiated by Azerbaijan against the Republic of Armenia. The ruling 'Civil Contract' party in Armenia has already officially announced that Tigran Avinyan will be their candidate for mayor in the Yerevan council elections scheduled for 2023.
