Hungarian Prime Minister Urges EU to Lift Sanctions Against Russia by Year-End

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated recently that the EU should lift the sanctions against Russia by the end of this year. According to reports from Bloomberg, citing Hungarian media, he made these remarks during a closed-door meeting.

Orbán informed lawmakers that the sanctions are causing greater harm to the European economy than to Russia and that their removal would help curb inflation and reduce the risk of recession. This information was reported by the Magyar Nemzet newspaper, which has connections to the Prime Minister's party.

Earlier this week, Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated that the possibility of imposing new sanctions against Russia should not be discussed, as this would only deepen Europe's energy crisis. On September 14, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, announced in the European Parliament that Brussels intends to continue pressure on Russia through sanctions, as reported by Interfax.
