‘We are only remembered when we are alive and our children’ – Tonoyan on the incident in Yerablur

On this Independence Day, an unpleasant incident was recorded in Yerablur. Ahead of the visit by the ruling elite, law enforcement officials again treated the parents of fallen soldiers disrespectfully. Police and special forces used force to detain dozens of people.

On a day like today, they should be honored particularly since their sons have become heroes in the noble pursuit of protecting the Homeland and its Independence.

‘There is nothing more humiliating than that; all those policemen should be punished, but there needs to be a strong demand from the people for that. The people only remember us when we are alive, or rather, when our children are alive,’ said Karine Tonoyan, the mother of Menua Harutyunyan, who perished during the 44-day war, in a conversation with Lurer.

When asked what this day of Independence means, Tonoyan said, ‘Having an independent Homeland is a very precious thing, it has a price, a very high price, and we must be ready to achieve that Independence at any cost. And we will achieve it!’
