Ohanyan on Leaving CSTO

In a conversation with reporters, Seyran Ohanyan, the leader of the "Armenia" parliamentary faction, stated that our authorities are in a losing stance in foreign policy and are unable to negotiate. Our problem should be to rid ourselves of the defeated authorities and change the negotiator.

“By changing the negotiator, we will undoubtedly change everything. The security in our region has always been fragile, and threats will continue to escalate as long as we do not straighten our backs,” said the deputy.

Ohanyan also addressed the dissatisfaction arising from recent events related to leaving the CSTO and the demands for withdrawal: “Let’s look at the situation realistically. We are at the crossroads of the West and the East, but geographically we are much closer to the collective security region. As a post-Soviet country, we are integrated in terms of defense, armaments, and military technology. For years, Armenia has done serious work in the development of this military-political structure. When we were in power, significant work was done within the CSTO. Every organization has its flaws; NATO has its own flaws, and there are also countries in conflict within it. So, what are we rejoicing about, that there are mistakes in the decisions of the CSTO? What have today’s authorities done in terms of accepting CSTO decisions and strengthening the organization? I think our country should have made its contribution to the strengthening of the CSTO,” he emphasized.

According to Ohanyan, prior to turning to the CSTO, the Armenian authorities should have made a mobilization decision internally. “It seems that our authorities are asleep and telling others, ‘come, protect our country,’” stated Seyran Ohanyan.
