«It Would Be a Disaster for the Whole World». China’s Foreign Ministry
During a meeting in New York with former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that the onset of a "new cold war" between Beijing and Washington would be a disaster not only for the two countries but for the entire world.
“The beginning of a new cold war between China and the United States would be a disaster not only for China and the United States but also for the world as a whole. The United States must return to a rational and pragmatic policy towards China, reestablish the correct path of the three joint communiqués between China and the U.S., and uphold the political foundation of China-U.S. relations,” Wang said.
He also noted that due to misunderstandings, the United States views China as a major competitor and a long-term challenge. Wang remarked that some label the history of successful exchanges between the two countries as a failure, which he interpreted as a manifestation of historical disrespect and disregard.
“The United States must return to a rational and pragmatic policy towards China, reestablish the correct path of the three joint communiqués between China and the U.S., and uphold the political foundation of China-U.S. relations,” the Chinese Foreign Minister reiterated.
