Mirzoyan and OSCE Secretary General Meet

Mirzoyan and OSCE Secretary General Meet

On September 19, in New York, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmidt. The head of the Armenian foreign ministry presented details of the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against Armenia's sovereign territory, highlighting that it has been accompanied by the deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure, as well as atrocities and torture against Armenian servicemen and prisoners of war.

Minister Mirzoyan stated that the aggression carried out by Azerbaijan grossly violates the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law, the UN charter, and the Helsinki Final Act.

Ararat Mirzoyan strongly condemned Azerbaijan's behavior of using force to achieve its maximalist aspirations, specifically emphasizing the importance of a clear and targeted response from the international community, including the OSCE, regarding Azerbaijani aggression, as well as the urgent need to activate relevant mechanisms within the organization.

Regarding the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, the role of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship was emphasized as vital for achieving a lasting and comprehensive solution to the conflict.

The Minister also addressed the humanitarian issues arising from the 44-day war, pointing out the urgent need for the immediate repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and other detained individuals in this context.

Discussion also included cooperation programs between Armenia and the OSCE.
