Concerning News: Armed Clashes Between Two CSTO Member States - Edmon Marukyan

Special envoy Edmon Marukyan has addressed the armed clashes that have begun at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border on his Facebook page, stating:

“We are receiving concerning news that armed clashes are taking place along the entire border between CSTO member states Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Authorities in Kyrgyzstan's Batken region have reported that four soldiers have been injured. Residents from border areas are being evacuated. I believe this is not a good precedent and that CSTO member countries must unite to protect each other, while clashes are occurring between these two member states. I hope that a quick peaceful resolution to the issue can be found.”

It should be noted that armed clashes are taking place between the military personnel of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan along the entire border perimeter. Reports indicate that one Tajik border guard has been killed, and three others have been injured. Both Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are member states of the CSTO.
