Over 6 Hours Discussing the Probability of War: New Details from the 'Hraparak'
The newspaper 'Hraparak' writes: 'Yesterday, during a session of the National Assembly with the participation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, MP Vigen Khachatryan let slip that they were not taken by surprise by the recent events, as they had prior knowledge of a possible attack and spent around 6 hours discussing the probability of war in Dilijan. We have already reported on this meeting, noting that Pashinyan told his allies that signing a peace treaty is not a matter for the near future but it would be good if they announce that it will be signed by the end of the year.
Yesterday, we learned new details from that meeting: Pashinyan nearly explicitly told the members of the ruling party that Azerbaijan would do everything possible to obtain the corridor. He added that their task is to maintain the current situation for at least two years, to keep Azerbaijan at bay until the army is re-equipped and ensure that problems are not resolved through military means. It seems that it took Pashinyan two years post-war to understand that the necessity was not to cut military expenses but to rearm the army.
The thing is, during the Brussels meeting, Aliyev made it clear: either we give the corridor, or he will take it by military means. By the way, the necessity for this corridor is based on Azerbaijan's distrust of Iran. Aliyev does not want to rely on a quality road connecting Nakhchivan through this country; he wants an alternative route. However, more pessimistic views suggest that under the guise of the corridor, the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem simply wants to seize Syunik, and basically, there isn't any real question about a road at all.'
