Minister on Reports of YSU Building Becoming a Hotel
Any expenditure aimed at improving the quality of education is justified, said the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia, Vahram Dumanyan, during a press briefing after the government meeting.
"Yes, the idea of an academic city is already moving into the practical phase, and yes, various options are being discussed not to merge existing universities, but to create new ones based on existing institutions. These will not be mechanical mergers; there will be a clear substantive approach. I view the idea positively," the minister stated.
He noted that the foundation of the idea is to have universities and infrastructures that meet international standards, which can be implemented in the area of Ashtarak that has been announced. "Rest assured, the building of Yerevan State University will remain the YSU building," said Vahram Dumanyan, responding to comments that discussions have occurred about the YSU building possibly becoming a hotel.
"The YSU building will remain as is. Whether there will be classes or some administrative body... no other discussions have taken place; this has been the result of someone's sick imagination. I've never heard such a thing from serious people," the minister added.
