«EU Deceives Again»: Putin Proposes Limiting Grain Exports to Europe
Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed considering the limitation of grain export routes from Ukraine and announced that he will definitely consult with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the matter.
"I will certainly consult with Turkish President Erdogan on this topic as well. After all, we developed the mechanism for the export of Ukrainian wheat. Primarily to help the poorest countries, but what is actually happening?" said Putin during the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum-2022.
According to the UN World Food Program, which aims to assist the most needy countries, only two ships have been loaded out of 87. "I emphasize that out of 87 ships, only two. And with them, 60 thousand tons of food have been exported from 2 million tons, which is only 3% directed towards developing countries. The European Union deceived yet again and continues to deceive developing countries," added the Russian president.
Putin stated that the number of people suffering from food shortages worldwide has now reached 345 million, which is 2.5 times more than in 2019. "The rise in prices in global markets can become a real tragedy for most of the poorest countries, which face deficits in food, energy resources, and other essential goods. Let me outline figures that highlight the dangerousness of the issue: If in 2019, according to UN data, 135 million people faced acute food shortages, now their number has increased 2.5 times to 345 million," emphasized Putin.
The Eastern Economic Forum is taking place from September 5-8 at the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University on Russky Island in Vladivostok. RIA Novosti is the main information partner of the forum.
