EU Ready for Complete Halt of Russian Gas Supplies, Says Commissioner

The European Union is well-prepared for a complete halt to gas supplies from Russia, stated Paolo Gentiloni, the EU Commissioner for Economic Affairs, as reported by Le Monde and Les Echos.

He emphasized that the EU is not afraid of Moscow but demands that gas contracts be honored.

“We are not afraid of Putin’s decisions. We urge the Russians to fulfill their contracts. But if they do not, we are ready to respond,” the commissioner remarked.

Gentiloni also added that gas reserves in the EU currently stand at about 80%.
