Man Who Killed Two and Stabbed Three Surrenders to Police: Details

On August 27, at 05:10 AM, the Charentsavan Medical Center reported to the police that two residents from the village of Arzakan in the Kotayk region had been admitted for treatment: a 57-year-old man suffering from "multiple stab-cut wounds to the neck and abdomen, hemorrhagic shock" and a 52-year-old woman with a stab-cut injury to her forearm. The injured individuals were identified as a married couple, as reported by the Armenian police.

The 52-year-old woman had informed the Charentsavan police that at around 03:30 AM on August 27, a 46-year-old villager had entered their bedroom, assaulted her, and stabbed her in the elbow with a knife, subsequently inflicting multiple wounds to her husband with the same knife.

In an effort to locate the 46-year-old resident of Arzakan, the police visited his home address, where they discovered the body of his 35-year-old wife, partially cut around the neck. Extensive operational and investigative measures were initiated to locate Zorik Melkonyan, a resident of Arzakan.

On August 30, at around 08:50 AM, the police operational management center received a report from a citizen who stated that a murder had occurred in the village of Balakhovit, and the suspect had fled the scene. At 09:08 AM, another report arrived from the operational management center, this time from the director of one of the open joint-stock companies, who reported that an employee had been stabbed in the production area on 8th Street in Balakhovit, and eyewitnesses claimed that the attacker was Zorik Melkonyan, who had previously worked at that establishment.

Shortly after, a report was made from the Abovyan Medical Center, indicating that the corpse of a 34-year-old man and a 29-year-old youth with stab-cut injuries had been admitted to the hospital.

Hours later, at 00:40 AM on August 31, the police received an alert from an employee at a gas station on Yerevantsi Street in Abovyan. The employee informed that during the night of August 30, between 04:00 and 04:30 AM, Zorik Melkonyan had threatened them with a knife, demanding food and cigarettes, which he obtained before leaving. Between 07:00 and 07:30 AM, he returned to the same gas station, this time demanding money, a tire, a mobile phone card, and cash, before fleeing again.

As a result of combined operational and investigative measures conducted by officers from the Criminal Police Main Department, Kotayk Regional Department, and police divisions in Charentsavan, Kotayk, Hrazdan, and Nairi, Zorik Melkonyan, a 46-year-old resident of Arzakan, surrendered to the Charentsavan police on September 3 at 03:15 AM and was arrested. He admitted to personally killing his wife, Seda P., along with a 34-year-old man named Sos G., and causing bodily harm to three individuals. The criminal proceedings initiated are ongoing,” the police statement concluded.
