Giant Container Ship Stuck in Quicksand
A Singapore-flagged container ship has become lodged in quicksand in the Suez Canal, Al-Arabiya TV reports, citing sources.
According to the report, the 400-meter-long Ever Given container ship, which was en route from China to Rotterdam, got stuck in the quicksand at the 151st kilometer of the Suez Canal on March 23, 2021, blocking the canal for six days and halting traffic.
The ship was freed from the quicksand on March 29 after several attempts, with more than 15 tugboats involved in the operation, and navigation resumed thereafter. The last of the 422 vessels that were stranded passed through the canal on April 3.
Earlier reports indicated that the investigation into the incident involving the Ever Given container ship found exclusively the captain at fault.
