Zelensky Reveals Estimated Cost for Ukraine's Recovery

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that approximately $600-800 billion will be needed for the recovery of Ukraine. He made these remarks during a call addressed to French business leaders, adding that the exact figure will only be known after military operations cease.

“Six hundred to eight hundred billion is what was said in Lugano (Switzerland). The amount was public. To restore everything anew, a volume of approximately that scale is required,” quoted Zelensky as saying by the 5.ua television channel.

At the same time, he noted that it is currently difficult to specify an exact amount due to the ongoing military activities, and it remains unclear how much funding will eventually be needed. He emphasized the necessity to focus on the restoration of specific infrastructure, including educational, port, transport, and residential buildings.

In mid-March, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal urged partners to help fill the Ukraine Recovery Fund, stating that about $500 billion will be necessary. Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned during a roundtable discussion at the IMF’s spring session that Ukraine has, by preliminary estimates, lost $550 billion.
