Paris and Berlin Oppose Banning Schengen Visas for Russians

The German and French authorities have opposed the ban on issuing Schengen visas to Russians. This is reported by TASS, citing the German DPA news agency. A document has come to light that is addressed to other EU member states on behalf of the two European countries.

It is noted that Paris and Berlin have called on member states to consider sensible measures regarding the use of visas as an important lever of influence. In particular, they propose detailed checks on Russian citizens from the perspective of potential security threats.

The states have urged to maintain the legal framework that allows creative professionals, students, scientists, and various professionals to enter the EU, regardless of the threat of persecution for political reasons.
