No acquittal verdict has been issued in any case concerning state treason, Abrahamyan denies

The adviser to the current Prosecutor General of Armenia, Gor Abrahamyan, stated on his Facebook page:

“In recent days, a number of media outlets, citing misinformation published on the website ‘armlur.am’ on August 25, reported that A. Sardarayan, accused of state treason in a criminal case pending in court, has been acquitted by a court decision. Moreover, in accordance with tradition, none of those media outlets made even a formal attempt to verify this information officially before publishing it, despite the fact that no credible source was mentioned in the publication.

As a reminder to the publications citing ‘reliable sources’, I must emphasize that this information does not correspond to reality. In the criminal case investigated by the NSS investigative department of the Republic of Armenia, A. Sardarayan was involved as a defendant on February 10, 2022, under part 1 of Article 299 of the former Criminal Code of Armenia (state treason). On June 10, 2022, the charges against A. Sardarayan were amended, and he was again charged under part 2 of Article 365 of the former Criminal Code of Armenia (violating the rules of combat duty or service, resulting in serious consequences). On the same day, another decision separated part of A. Sardarayan’s criminal case and sent it to the court of general jurisdiction of Ararat and Vayots Dzor regions on June 17, 2022.

On June 30, 2022, the court, considering the issue of changing the measure of restraint for the accused A. Sardarayan, decided to leave the applied measure of restraint (detention) unchanged, and the motion of the defense regarding the application of bail was rejected. In other words, judicial proceedings in this criminal case are ongoing, and A. Sardarayan remains in custody.

Furthermore, I would like to add that there has been no acquittal verdict in any case concerning state treason sent to court after the 2020 Artsakh war.”
