Iran Supplies First Batch of Drones to Russia
Iran has delivered its first batch of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to Russia. This was reported by The New York Times, citing "officials from the U.S. and allied nations."
According to the publication, Russian cargo planes loaded with drones took off from Tehran on August 19. Two types of Iranian drones, which can also carry munitions, are reportedly intended for use against Ukraine.
U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan had previously stated that U.S. officials believe Iran plans to quickly transfer several hundred UAVs to Russia, including weapon-carrying models. He noted that Iranian specialists will train Russian military personnel on how to operate the drones.
In turn, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani denied the possibility of transferring drones to Russia. The diplomat also added that Iran's position on the situation in Ukraine is clear and has been stated multiple times.
