How Much Financial Support Will Families of Victims of the Surmalu Explosion Receive?

The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has published a draft decision to provide social support to individuals injured and families of those who perished in the explosion at the Surmalu shopping center. According to the plan, families of those who lost their lives in the explosion, as well as families of the missing, are to receive a one-time payment of 3,000,000 AMD for each victim.

Citizens who sustained injuries (disability, wounds) as a result of the explosion will receive support of up to 300,000 AMD, but only if they underwent hospital treatment. Specifically, those treated for up to three days will receive 150,000 AMD, while those who were hospitalized for three days or more will receive 300,000 AMD.

To benefit from the state support, applicants must submit an electronic application to the Unified Social Service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs by December 1, 2022. The social support will be provided in cashless form to the bank account of the beneficiary.

It should be noted that the draft developed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs was made available for public discussion yesterday, August 29. It is expected to be approved by the government after the public discussion period ends on September 14. The payment process will begin after December 1, once all beneficiaries have applied for support.

The Ministry of Social Affairs has also presented preliminary calculations indicating that there are 24 individuals who sustained injuries in the explosion, with 17 set to receive 150,000 AMD and 7 to receive 300,000 AMD. Families of 16 deceased individuals and one missing person will receive a total of 51,000,000 AMD, or 3,000,000 AMD for each. Based on this assessment, the total value of social assistance will amount to 55,650,000 AMD.
