Al-Sadr Orders Supporters to Leave Baghdad's Green Zone Within One Hour

Shia leader Muqtada al-Sadr has ordered his supporters to vacate the parliament building and the government district in Baghdad's central "Green Zone" within 60 minutes, threatening to completely withdraw from the Sadrist movement. Following his announcement, supporters began to leave the area.

"I am very saddened by the events occurring in Iraq. We had hoped that the protest would proceed peacefully, without weapons. I am giving you 60 minutes to vacate the parliament building and leave the Green Zone," he stated during a meeting with reporters, as reported by RIA Novosti.

According to a source from Iraqi security services, following the command from their leader, al-Sadr's supporters began to depart from the center of the Iraqi capital. Since Monday, al-Sadr's supporters have launched armed attacks on government buildings in the "Green Zone" of central Baghdad and administrative buildings in other provinces, following his announcement that he is suspending political activity due to long-standing disagreements with the government and other political forces.
