VIDEO: Turks Prepare to Convert Armenian Church into Art Center

The partially destructed Armenian Saint Sarkis Church located in the Menemen district of Izmir, Turkey, is set for renovation. This was reported by ermenihaber. The acting mayor of Menemen, Aidan Pehlivan, stated that the church will be restored and utilized as a "Cultural and Science Center."

According to Pehlivan, the church was used by Armenians until 1922. Subsequently, the church fell into neglect, causing it to lose its original appearance over the years.

“After obtaining the necessary permits, we announced a competition. Following the completion of the restoration works, we plan to serve it to our people as a center for art and science,” the acting mayor said.

It is noteworthy that after being abandoned, the Saint Sarkis Armenian Church was temporarily used by Turks as a military warehouse and later as a stable.
