VIDEO: Azerbaijanis Visit Sarsang Reservoir in Artsakh Unimpeded – What is the Purpose?
Azerbaijani representatives have visited the Sarsang Reservoir. This was reported by the Republic of Artsakh's Telegram channel, which also shared accompanying video footage.
On August 22, representatives from Azerbaijan’s irrigation and water management company, along with local specialists, examined the Sarsang Reservoir located in the Martakert region of the Republic of Artsakh.
The purpose of the visit was to conduct technical monitoring of the Sarsang Reservoir, gain an understanding of the current situation, determine the schedule for water inflow from the Tartar River, and create a foundation for continuing work in this direction. This was reported by Azerbaijani media.
The authorities in Artsakh have not yet provided any clarification as to why Azerbaijanis visited the Sarsang Reservoir, which is under Artsakh's control. Auroranews attempted to contact the Office of the President of Artsakh and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for more details regarding the visit. As of now, our calls have gone unanswered.
Several sources report that Baku intends to resume negotiations with the Armenian side regarding the joint use of the Sarsang Reservoir. During the Soviet era, Sarsang provided irrigation water for up to 100 hectares across 6 districts of the Azerbaijan SSR. Following its transfer to the control of the Republic of Artsakh, the inability to utilize the reservoir has caused significant damage to Azerbaijan due to the lack of irrigation for agricultural crops.
