US Warships Enter Taiwan Strait
In response to the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the island, two US naval vessels have crossed the Taiwan Strait for the first time following China's extensive military drills around Taiwan.
“USS Antietam and USS Chancellorsville guided-missile cruisers are making a routine transit through the waters of the Taiwan Strait, where international law allows for freedom of navigation and overflight in the high seas. These ships are passing through the corridor outside the territorial waters of the coastal state,” a representative of the US Navy's 7th Fleet stated to The Japan Times.
Anonymous sources have also informed the Reuters news agency that the US Navy's Chancellorsville and Antietam are conducting operations that are still ongoing.
