Norway Joins EU Sanctions Package Against Russia
The authorities of Norway have joined the seventh package of anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the European Union on July 21. The statement from the Kingdom's Ministry of Foreign Affairs was published on the Norwegian government website on Friday.
The new restrictions include a ban on the purchase, import, or transfer of gold and jewelry from the Russian Federation, tightening rules for accepting bank deposits from Russian individuals and legal entities, and expanding the list of dual-use goods and technologies that are prohibited.
“Once again, we are acting together with the European Union to impose sanctions against Russia to maintain pressure on the Russian government,” stated Norway's Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt while commenting on the document.
Previously, Norway supported all EU sanctions against the Russian Federation, with some exceptions for the fishing industry, allowing, in particular, fishing vessels flying the Russian flag to enter Norwegian ports. Cooperation continues within the framework of the Russian-Norwegian fishing joint commission.
