Kyiv Authorities Do Not Exclude Forced Evacuation of City Residents
The director of the municipal security department of the Kyiv city administration, Roman Tkatchuk, has announced that the authorities of Ukraine's capital are developing options for the possible forced evacuation of city residents.
"We are considering options up to and including forced evacuation; the system must be prepared for that," Tkatchuk said in an interview with the 'Glavkom' publication, responding to a question about whether the possibility of evacuating people living in the government district of Kyiv has been discussed.
According to the official, there has been a threat of attacks on the government district since the end of February. At the same time, he noted that "no decision has yet been made regarding forced evacuation." Tkatchuk stated that "people living near critical infrastructure facilities should always be aware that these facilities may be targeted," and thus must independently decide whether they should return to the city and live next to these facilities.
The official also reported that the Kyiv city authorities are already beginning to train evacuation commissions to understand how an evacuation of a particular district or the entire city might be conducted.
