Germany's Legalization of Marijuana Will Happen Quickly, Scholz Details
Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz has announced the upcoming difficult decision regarding the legalization of marijuana in Germany. According to him, the legalization of marijuana will happen quickly in Germany, while he admitted that he has never smoked it and that the plans for legalization have not been easy for him.
“Well, during this legislative period,” said Scholz during a meeting with fellow citizens in Magdeburg on Thursday, when asked about the timeline for marijuana legalization in Germany.
The Chancellor reminded that these plans are outlined in the coalition agreement. Earlier, the head of the German Ministry of Justice, Marco Buschmann, stated that the first draft law on the legalization of marijuana in Germany could be introduced this year.
The coalition government of Germany, led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, had previously agreed that marijuana would be legalized to be sold to adult citizens in certain quantities.
According to a survey conducted by Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung at the end of 2021, about 40% of German citizens are in favor of marijuana legalization, while the same percentage is against it. The most active supporters of legalization are Germans aged 18 to 29 (66%), whereas respondents aged 65 and older are mainly opposed (54%).
