Iranian Attempted to Cross Armenian Border Without Documents

On August 19, an Iranian citizen, H.Z., attempted to illegally cross the state border of the Republic of Armenia without the necessary documents and appropriate authorization. He circumvented the Meghri checkpoint and breached the engineering and technical barriers in an area monitored by the border guards of the Russian Federal Security Service.

According to the National Security Service (NSS), measures taken by the staff of the Russian Federal Security Service resulted in H.Z. being apprehended and handed over to the Armenian national security authorities.

H.Z. has been detained, and a criminal case has been initiated against him under Article 469, Part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code (Crossing the state border of the Republic of Armenia without the required documents or appropriate authorization).
