Significant Developments in the Case of Tonoyan and Others
Significant developments are expected soon in the criminal case against former officials of the Ministry of Defense. This was reported by the newspaper 'Zhoghovurd'. According to the publication, the defense attorneys of the former officials received a call from the court recently, informing them that a decision has been made and that the Anti-Corruption Committee will be investigating the criminal proceedings against former Minister of Defense David Tonoyan and other officials.
The detained officials of the Armed Forces are awaiting news on which newly appointed judge will be assigned to their case by the Anti-Corruption Committee. Meanwhile, Stepan Galstyan, the former deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, who is detained at the 'Kentron' penitentiary facility in Yerevan, has approached Kamo Manukyan, the director of the 'Penitentiary Medicine Center', requesting a transfer to a hospital for health-related examinations. It has been 1.5 months, but the Penitentiary Service has not responded to Stepan Galstyan’s letter. This is an unacceptable behavior.
It should be noted that a criminal case was initiated in the Investigative Department of the NSS regarding alleged abuses in the acquisition of military ammunition, specifically relating to the procurement of low-quality, defective missiles. Within the framework of this criminal case, charges have been brought against seven individuals, including former Minister of Defense David Tonoyan, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Artak Davtyan, former deputy chief of the General Staff Stepan Galstyan, and businessman David Galstyan, known by the nickname 'Patron Davo', who is engaged in arms supply. However, Galstyan is currently free.
