After the Beirut Explosion, I Ordered Measures to Prevent Similar Incidents in Armenia: Pashinyan

In a government meeting today, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that following the explosion in Beirut in August 2020, he issued a directive to gather information on all potential facilities that could store large quantities of explosive materials. He personally expressed condolences on behalf of himself and state bodies to the families of victims of the explosion at the Surmalu shopping center.

“After the incident, I attempted to receive a report on the implementation of the directive I provided. Currently, the information is being summarized, but I must instruct the State Supervisory Service to report back on the execution of my directive,” he said.

Pashinyan emphasized that measures were to be taken to ensure that a similar incident does not occur in Armenia following the explosion in Beirut. Romanos Petrosyan, the head of the State Supervisory Service, promised to present a report on the matter in the near future.
