Gone Shopping for Their Grandchildren: Details About the Deceased Gayane and Anahit

57-year-old Gayane Avetisyan was shopping for her grandchildren alongside her neighbor, 52-year-old Anahit Khalatyan, when the explosion occurred at the Surmalu shopping center. Anahit and Gayane lived in the same building but on different floors.

According to their neighbors, both Anahit Khalatyan and Gayane Avetisyan worked in a hospital and each had two children. Anahit Khalatyan had two grandchildren. “They also had a kinship bond as they were godmother and goddaughter. Both were very good women, raised their sons well, and had outstanding families. One of Gayane's sons lives in the Russian Federation. Gayane had gone shopping for her new grandchild, planning to visit them in the near future,” one neighbor recounted.

Gayane Avetisyan was buried today, while Anahit Khalatyan will be buried tomorrow.

It is important to note that as of 10:00 AM on August 17, following the explosion at the Surmalu shopping center on August 14, there are 16 confirmed fatalities. The identities of 15 of the deceased have been established, while two individuals are still missing.

As a result of the explosion, 61 citizens were injured, with 7 remaining hospitalized. Their health condition is reported as satisfactory.
