Names of 3 Missing Citizens Published

As of August 16, at 17:00, firefighting and search-and-rescue operations continue. The fire was contained on August 16 at 14:38.

The area of the firefighting and rescue operations is estimated to cover about 1 hectare. A three-storey building (approximately 2889 sq. m) has collapsed.

As a result of search-and-rescue operations, the bodies of 16 citizens have been discovered: Misak Patvakan's Margaryan (born 1964), Anahit Vazgen's Mkhitaryan (born 1967), Jemma Sarkis's Nazaryan (born 1960), Anahit Zarzandi's Khalatyan, Vardan Gurgen's Kocharyan (born 1960), Gayane Artavazd's Avetisyan (born 1966), Aram Komisari's Hayrapetyan (born 1980), Vachagan Vahagni's Yeghoyan (born 2000), Ern Manvel's Grigoryan (born 1980), Harutyun Samveli's Garakyan (born 1987), Mariam Armen's Khachatrayan (born 1992), Sirarpi Armen's Khachatrayan (born 1994), Marat Karen's Shahbazyan (born 2018), and Hrachya Fanberg's Sargsyan (born 1976), Artavazd Hayrapetyan (born 1951), and one unidentified citizen.

A total of 62 citizens have sought medical assistance at Yerevan hospitals, 7 of whom continue to receive treatment while the others have been discharged after receiving the necessary medical care.

Approximately 152 rescue workers are currently on site, including 11 from the Ministry of Emergency Situations' Yerevan Rescue Directorate, 13 from the State Academy of Crisis Management, 32 firefighters from the special fire brigade of the Nuclear Power Plant, 7 firefighters and 1 rescue vehicle from Yerevan Rescue Directorate, 1 aerial ladder, operational teams from the National Crisis Management Center, specialized rescue teams from the Special Rescue Operations Center, a psychological support division, the Lori City search-and-rescue team (consisting of 81 rescuers), and 75 volunteers from the 'VOMA' patriotic NGO and the 'Red Cross' humanitarian organization.

Firefighting operations are being conducted in 4 sections. The resources also include 2 tractors from the city administration, 12 dump trucks, 3 ambulances, 1 body transport vehicle, and 1 crane.

From August 14 to 16, approximately 665 rescue workers and volunteers from the territorial and structural units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations participated in firefighting and search-and-rescue operations at the Surmalu shopping center.

The psychological support division is onsite providing psychological assistance to the citizens. Citizens can also receive psychological support by calling the '911' hotline.

Minister of Emergency Situations Armen Pambukhchyan is coordinating the firefighting operations on site. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure G. Sanosyan were present at the site.

Based on calls received by the EMERCOM's '911' hotline, the following citizens may be considered missing in the area of the Surmalu shopping center:

  1. Gagik Karapetyan
  2. Vanik Amirkhanyan
  3. Ksenia Badalyan (born 1981)
