Syrian Opposition Groups Burn Turkish Flags
In northern Syria, opposition groups under the control of the Turkey-backed "Syrian Free Army" have organized anti-Turkish protests in several cities. This was reported by Ermenihaber.
The protests followed statements made by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu during a press conference that took place after the closure of the 13th conference of diplomats in Ankara. Çavuşoğlu stated that he had spoken on the phone with Syria's foreign minister and emphasized that there needs to be peace between the opposition Syrian forces and the regime, and that Turkey can support this.
Furthermore, in his remarks, Çavuşoğlu addressed the Syrian president as Bashar Assad, whereas members of the Turkish government had referred to him as Bashar Esed after the deterioration of relations with the Syrian central authority. These comments sparked anger among the Syrian opposition. The opposition groups chanted anti-Turkish slogans in Jarabulus and Azaz and burned Turkish flags alongside flags of the "Syrian Free Army."
